The Sugar Bowl has seen some of the greatest games, coaches and players in the history of college football on their field. Of the 73 games that have been played as the Sugar Bowl, over half of those games were decided by seven points or less. One of the most exciting games came when the Sugar Bowl the first of two National Championship games in 1999. The game featured some of the brightest young stars that are helping carry the National Football League right now. On the Virginia Tech Hokies side they had the most exciting guy in the NFL, quarterback Michael Vick. On the Florida State Seminoles side they featured guys like Anquan Boldin, Peter Warrick, Sebastian Janikowski, and Corey Simon. The Hokies found themselves down 28-14 at halftime and then scored 15 unanswered points in the third quarter. The Seminoles then scored 18 unanswered points of their own and won the game 46-29.

The Sugar Bowl’s third shot hosting the BCS matched the undefeated #7 Utah Utes (12-0) against the #4 Alabama Crimson Tide (12-1).  The Utes took control early scoring 21 unanswered points in the first quarter.  The Crimson Tide managed to reel off 10 unanswered points in the 2nd closing the gap to 11.  Both teams would score 7 in the third as both defenses stiffened in the 2nd half.  Alabama held the Utah scoring machine to 3 points in the 4th and Utah held Alabama scoreless.  The final score was the Utes 31 the Crimson Tide 17.

The 2010 Sugar Bowl was held on January 1st, 2010 and matched the 12-0 Cincinnati Bearcats against the 12-1 Florida Gators.  Tim Tebow and the Gators came out chomping and never looked back, taking a 27 point lead into halftime and winning 51-24 over a hapless Bearcats squad. Be sure to get your tickets early for the 77th Sugar Bowl taking place on January 4, 2011 at the Superdome.
